Uriah Heep

URIAH HEEP. English rock band formed in London in 1969. Twelve of the band's albums have made it to the UK Album Chart with "Return to Fantasy" reaching No7 in 1975. In the late 1970s they had massive success in Germany, where the "Lady in Black" single was a big hit. Along with Led Zeppelin / Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, Uriah Heep were recognised as one of the top rock bands of the early 1970s. Their audience declined in the 1980s to the point where they became essentially a cult band in the United Kingdom and United States. Despite many lineup changes over the years the band maintain a significant following throughout the world. They have sold over 40 million albums worldwide with over 4 million sales in the US alone. Bass player Gary Thain died of a heroin overdose aged just 27 on December 8th 1975. Vocalist David Byron died of alcohol issues aged 38 in 1985.
