Valerie Hobson

VALERIE HOBSON d1998. British actress of the 1930-40s whose best known roles included playing Baroness Frankenstein in The Bride Of Frankenstein (1935) with Boris Karloff / Werewolf Of London (1935) / Great Expectations (1946) and Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949). She divorced her first husband and married MP John Profumo in 1954 giving up acting shortly afterwards. After Profumo's ministerial career ended in disgrace in 1963 following revelations he had lied to the House Of Commons about his affair with Christine Keeler, she stood by him and they worked together for a charity for the remainder of her life.

Description:

A good original single sided typed letter (dated December 20th 1948) on her own headed paper, clearly signed at the conclusion by Valerie Hobson.

Certification:

The letter mentions her films "Blanche Fury" (1948) and "The Small Voice" (1947). One of a wonderful collection of over 50 celebrity letters all obtained during the late 1940s to early 1950s by a Mr Douglas Squires. He was involved in editing a School / University Film & Theatre Entertainment magazine during this period and wrote to celebrities looking for a contribution of autographs and signed photographs for the magazine. Many of the letters are gracious and detailed replies with many references to helping his project and mentions of their careers at that point in time.
