Vince Taylor

VINCE TAYLOR d1991. British rock and roll singer and frontman of The Playboys who had some success in France / Europe in the early 1960s. Despite his dynamic onstage persona, his career was destroyed by a combination of drugs (LSD) and alcohol which made him increasingly erratic both on and off stage. At one point Taylor declared that he was the biblical apostle Matthew in front of a large concert audience in London. His career afterwards faded into obscurity amidst personal problems. He joined a religious cult and in the 1970-80s attempts were made to revive his career. During his latter years, he became an aircraft mechanic in Switzland. He died of cancer aged 52 in 1991
