Winston Churchill

WINSTON CHURCHILL d1965. British politician known chiefly for his outstanding leadership of The United Kingdom during WW2. A noted statesmen historian writer and orator with many of his speeches / anecdotes and quotations nowadays part of British folklore. Following his army career he was at the forefront of British politics for 60 years ; initially holding many political and cabinet positions before becoming Prime Minister twice (1940-1945) and (1951-1955). He had a stroke in 1953 aged 78 before ill-health forced him to retire in 1955. He spent most of his final years at Chartwell before dying at the age of 90 on 24th January 1965 after a severe stroke. In his lifetime he received numerous awards and honours including ; The First Honorary Citizen of the USA in 1963 and The Nobel Prize for Literature. In a 2002 BBC British TV Poll Winston Churchill was named "The Greatest Briton of All-Time".
