WINSTON CHURCHILL d1965. British politician known chiefly for his outstanding leadership of The United Kingdom during WW2. A noted statesmen historian writer and orator with many of his speeches anecdotes and quotations becoming part of British folklore. Following his army career he was at the forefront of British politics for 60 years ; initially holding many political and cabinet positions before becoming Prime Minister twice 1940-1945 and 1951-1955. He had a stroke in 1953 aged 78 before illhealth forced him to retire in 1955. He spent most of his final years at Chartwell before dying at the age of 90 on 24th January 1965 after a severe stroke. In his lifetime he received numerous awards and honours including ; The First Honorary Citizen of the USA in 1963 / Won The Nobel Prize for Literature and in a 2002 BBC TV Poll was named as "The Greatest Briton of All".
