BAND AID. Charity supergroup formed in 1984 by Bob Geldof & Midge Ure featuring mainly American, British and Irish recording artists of the period. It was founded to raise money for the anti-poverty efforts in Ethiopia, by releasing the song "Do They Know its Christmas" for the 1984 Christmas market.  On 25th November 1984, the song was recorded at Sarm West Studios Notting Hill London. It was released on November 29th 1984 and went straight to No1 in the UK singles chart outselling all the other records in the chart put together. It became the fastest- selling single of all time in the UK, selling a million copies in the first week alone. It stayed at No1 for five weeks (selling over three million copies) and became the biggest-selling single of all time in the UK (beating the seven-year record held by Mull of Kintyre).
