Elizabeth R And Prince Philip

ELIZABETH R AND PRINCE PHILIP. The Queen of England, The Supreme Governor of The Church Of England, the figurehead of the 54-member Commonwealth Of Nations and the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states known as The Commonwealth. Elizabeth was born in London and educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne as George VI in 1936 on the abdication of his brother Edward VIII. In 1947 she married Prince Philip (The Duke Of Edinburgh) with whom she had four children ; Charles / Anne / Andrew and Edward. When her father died in 1952, Elizabeth became Queen. Her Coronation Service in 1953 was the first to be televised. Her silver and golden jubilees were celebrated in 1977 and 2002. Her 59-year reign is currently the second longest ever for a British monarch. Plans for her Diamond Jubilee in 2012 are currently underway ; a year in which she will celebrate her 86th birthday and Prince Philip his 91st birthday. A remarkable woman who has devoted her whole life to extraordinary public service and who despite many controversaries surrounding the Royal Family, especially during the 1990s, her huge personal popularity has remained constant.
