Francois Cevert

FRANCOIS CEVERT. French F1 driver. 47 GPs with one win in USA in 1971. Highly talented dashing playboy who as the protege and team mate of Jackie Stewart was being groomed at Tyrrell to become his successor on his retirement. As Stewarts No2 he was often on the same pace and acted as a very responsible team mate. He was tragically killed (aged just 29) during practice at Watkins Glen in October 1973, just a few months before he would have achieved his ambition of being team leader for the 1974 season
