Jacques Brel

JACQUES BREL d1978. Belgian singer and actor who composed and performed theatrical songs. He is considered a master of the modern chanson. Although he recorded most of his songs in French (and occasionally in Dutch) he became an influence on English-speaking songwriters including ; Scott Walker / David Bowie and Alex Harvey. He was also a successful actor, appearing in 10 films. Having sold over 25 million records worldwide, he is the third-best-selling Belgian recording artist of all time. He died in France aged 49 on October 9th 1978
