Katina Paxinou

KATINA PAXINOU d1973. Greek film and stage actress.The outbreak of WW2 found her in the UK and she later moved to the United States, where she made her film debut in For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943) and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. She appeared in a few more Hollywood films, before returning to Greece in the early 1950s. She died in Athens aged 72 on February 22nd 1973
