BEAUTIFUL SOUTH. English pop / rock group formed at the end of the 1980s by two former members of Hull group The Housemartins. Their best known single hits include ; Song For Whoever (No2 1989) / A Little Time (1990 No1) / Rotterdam (1996 No5) / Don't Marry Her (1996 No8) and Perfect 10 (1998 No2). They also enjoyed considerable album success between 1989-2000 with a succession of UK Top 10 LPs ; Welcome to Beautiful South / Choke / 0898 Beautiful South / Miaow / Blue is Colour / Quench and Painting it Red. The group broke up in January 2007, claiming the split was due to "musical similarities". To date they have sold around 15 million records worldwide.
