BORIS KARLOFF d1969. Distinquished English actor born William Henry Pratt who attended Uppingham School before emigrating to Canada in 1910. After gaining occasional work as a film extra during the 1920s, his career finally took off in the classic hollywood horror films of the 1930s, often working alongside Lon Chaney and Bela Lugosi. Such was his popularity within the horror genre, he was simply billed as "Karloff" on the film posters of the period. He will forever be remembered for his outstanding portrayal of "The Monster" in Frankenstein (1931) / The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Son of Frankenstein (1939). Renowned for being a true English gentleman with a real passion for the game of cricket and for his generous support of childrens charities throughout his life. Married six times, he died of pneumonia aged 81 on February 2nd 1969.
