CAPTAIN ROBERT FALCON SCOTT d1912. British Naval and Antarctic Explorer who in the "Race to the South Pole" famously and tragically finished second behind Roald Amundsen. In what has now become the stuff of legend and an extraordinary story of human courage and endurance, Scott and his three companions died in their tent on the return journey just 11 miles short of their station. The tent was found by a search party six months later intact, containing their bodies and journals
