DAVE ALLEN d2005. Popular Irish comedian of the 1960s and 70s. At the height of his career he was Britain's most controversial comedian. He was most usually seen on primetime TV sitting smoking on his characteristic stool, regularly provoking conservative indignation at his frequent highlighting of political hypocrisy and his disregard for religious authority. He died peacefully in his sleep aged 68 in 2005.
