Certification:It is well-known that Donald used to sell his fathers autograph during his later years at Uppingham School. He would therefore have been very familiar with his fathers handwriting. It can possibly be concluded that this is maybe why his own autograph and his formation of "Campbell" during his later life was very similar to his fathers. Donald as a young-man was prominent on many occasions during the decade alongside his famous father. It was he who christened K4 in 1939, he was also on the 1939 attempt as course controller and took 16mm colour film of K4 breaking the record. Donald can be viewed many times in newsreel footage with his father (including the well-known clip when they are seen playing together with Donald’s train set). He also went to Switzerland with Malcolm and K3 and to Verneuk Pan. Donald during these early years, whilst not yet a celebrity himself, could easily have been asked or signed an autograph or two. We have researched this extensively and have sought advice from probably the worlds leading expert on The Campbells. My conclusion is that this is a very early Donald Campbell signature which he has signed using his initials D M Campbell (Donald Malcolm Campbell) but we welcome any other expert opinion.
