Description
A lovely original double sided handwritten letter in ink on her own Green Hedges Beaconsfield headed paper (dated March 9th 1942) with important content to the famous illustrator Horace J Knowles, clearly signed at the conclusion Best wishes always. Yours sincerely Enid Blyton
"I'm really awfully sorry that Methuens offered you such a poor fee ! I hope you will believe me when I say that. I have and had no idea of the price they were prepared to pay to the artist. I am very glad you refused-though sad from my point of view, as I think you are the only artist who could possibly illustrate the book the way I want it done. I've now fixed up with Hodder & Stoughton. They want to bring out a 5s book in October-the drawings to be in by the end of May-price £50-is it worth it from your point of view ? I don't know what the book is to be yet-but shall know tomorrow and start it straightaway & could let you have the duplicate by middle of April. The book is to be 45,000 words long. On the illustrations as many as we see fit (we means you & I) or done anyway we like. I don't know yet if this sum includes the cover, I'll have to find out. I don't even know if H & S will be allowed to run to a cover, but hope so ! Again my apologies for Methuen ! They are good to authors, so why shouldn't they be to artists !"
