LILLIE LANGTRY d1929. Jersey born British stage actress, royal mistress, race-horse owner and maker and spender of fortunes. One of the most elusive natural beauties of all-time. She was nicknamed the "Jersey Lily" and had a number of prominent aristocratic lovers including the future king of England (when The Prince of Wales) Edward 7th. She became a successful actress in the UK and US. Following her close friend Oscar Wilde's encouragement. she later became a thoroughbred horse-racing enthusiast with her own horse (Merman) winning The Ascot Gold Cup in 1900. She became an American citizen in 1897. In 1899 she married the much younger Baron Hugo Gerald De Bathe and in her later years lived her life in Monaco dying of natural causes aged 75. Her most extraordinary life has over the years been well documented in print and on film
