Description:

A desirable original single sided letter (dated December 9th 1949) on her own headed paper, clearly signed in ink at the conclusion by Olivia De Havilland.

Certification:

The letter importantly mentions her films "The Snake Pit" (1948) and "The Heiress" (1949). She was nominated for an Academy Award for best actress playing Virginia Cunningham in The Snakepit. She won the Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her performance as Catherine Sloper in The Heiress. One of a wonderful collection of over 50 celebrity letters all obtained during the late 1940s to early 1950s by a Mr Douglas Squires. He was involved in editing a School / University Film & Theatre Entertainment magazine during this period and wrote to celebrities looking for a contribution of autographs and signed photographs for the magazine. Many of the letters are gracious and detailed replies with many references to helping his project and mentions of their careers at that point in time. OLIVIA DE HAVILLAND. British-American film & stage actress and estranged elder sister of Joan Fontaine. She is known for her role as Melanie Hamilton in the classic Gone With The Wind (1939) and for winning two Academy Awards (for best actress) in "To Each His Own" (1946) and "The Heiress" (1949). One of the very last surviving leading ladies from the Golden Age of 1930s Hollywood. She celebrated her 100th birthday on July 1st 2016.

Certification:

From the outstanding & huge autograph collection of Jean Williams of Chelsea, all obtained in and around the London Theatres / London Hotels (The Dorchester / The Savoy) /  the BBC Riverside Studios and ITV TV Studios from the late 1950s into the mid 1970s. Including (amongst others) such notables as ; John Lennon / Marlon Brando / Steve McQueen / Sharon Tate / Lee Van Cleef / Ringo Starr and Natalie Wood.
