ROBERT MULLIKEN d1986. American physicist and chemist, primarily responsible for the early development of molecular orbital theory. This is the elaboration of the molecular orbital method of computing the structure of molecules. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1966 and the Priestley Medal in 1983. He died in Virginia aged 90 on October 31st 1986
