Simon & Garfunkel
Simon & Garfunkel
SIMON & GARFUNKEL. American singer-songwriting duo who scored their first minor success with Hey Schoolgirl as the group Tom And Jerry in 1957. As Simon & Garfunkel, the duo found fame in 1965 with the hit single "The Sound Of Silence" which featured in the landmark film "The Graduate". Renowned for their wonderful close vocal harmonies, they became one of the most popular recording artists of the 1960s with a succesion of classic hits including ; The Sound of Silence / Homeward Bound / Mrs Robinson / The Boxer / Scarborough Fair and Bridge Over Troubled Water. Their well publicised sometimes rocky relationship led to their last album, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" being delayed several times due to artistic disagreements and as a direct result the duo broke up in 1970. It became their most-successful album, peaking at No1 in several countries (including in the United States) and becoming an eight times Multi-Platinum seller. Despite their differences, they have reunited to perform and tour together in every decade since their 1970 breakup (most famously for the 1981 "Concert In Central Park") which attracted a crowd in excess of 500,000 people.
