About

About Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder

STEVIE WONDER. Legendary American singer-songwriting genius, multi-instrumentalist, record producer and activist. A childhood prodigy, blind from just after birth. He originally signed with Tamla-Motown (aged just eleven in 1961) and had his first major hit just two years later in 1963. He is still actively working and recording for the same company today. His best known songs include ;  "Superstition" / "Sir Duke" / "I Wish" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You". Well known albums also include ; Talking Book / Innervisions and Songs In The Key of Life. He has recorded more than thirty US Top Ten hits and received twenty-two Grammy Awards (the most ever awarded to a male solo artist). He is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a holiday in the United States. In 2009, he was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. In 2008, Billboard magazine released a list of the Hot 100 All-Time Top Artists to celebrate the US singles chart's 50th anniversary with Stevie Wonder ranked at number five.

There has always been debate within the autograph community about what constitutes an actual Stevie Wonder autograph as various aids over the years have assisted him whilst signing his name (Ted Hull often during the 1960-70s). There are many different examples of his handwriting to be found from very childlike / ponderous / to neat and considered, so as a result his autograph is notoriously hard to authenticate. On hurried occasions with many people around him, we understand his aids guide his hand for him. Then in less pressurized settings and whilst sitting down the handwriting can be of much higher quality, as this example undoubtably is. In view of the difficulties of authentication, supporting provenance is beneficial. This example came from a huge in-person autograph collection of over 2000 entertainment notables collected by Mike between 1975-2005. Many are on clipped pages from scrapbooks, glued onto index cards and are dedicated to him (Mike). Chaucer. AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA
