Tenzing Norgay

TENZING NORGAY d1986. Nepali-Indian Sherpa mountaineer born Namgyal Wangdi. Nicknamed "Sherpa Tenzing", he was one of the first two individuals known to have reached the summit of Mount Everest (along with Edmund Hillary) on 29th May 1953. Time magazine later named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. He died in India aged 71 on May 9th 1986
