David Hockney
DAVID HOCKNEY d2026. English painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer. A major and important contributor to the pop art movement of the 1960s, he is widely considered to be one of the most influential British artists of the 20-21st centuries. On 15th November 2018, his 1972 work Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) sold at Christie's auction house in New York City for $90m USD (£70 million pounds). The most expensive artwork by a living artist ever sold at auction. It broke the previous record which was set by the 2013 sale of Jeff Koons's Balloon Dog (Orange) for $58.4m USD. Hockney held the record until 15th May 2019 when Koons again reclaimed the honour by selling his Rabbit for more than $91m USD at Christie's in New York. David Hockney died in London aged 88 on June 11th 2026
