Dixon of Dock Green

Dixon of Dock Green

DIXON OF DOCK GREEN. Hugely popular BBC television series which ran for an incredible 432 episodes between 1955-1976. It revolved around daily life at a London police station with the emphasis on petty crime, successfully controlled through common sense and human understanding. The central character was a mature and sympathetic police constable (George Dixon played by Jack Warner) in all of the episodes. Indeed he played the part until the age of 80. He died of pneumonia aged 85 in 1981. The series contrasted sharply with later programmes such as Z-CARS which reflected a more aggressive policing culture
