George Formby
GEORGE FORMBY d1961. English singer actor comedian and legendary ukuele player. After his fathers death in 1921, he abandoned his career as a jockey to follow in his fathers music-hall footsteps. His unique cheeky and catchy musical style (especially with his ukuele compositions) made him a star. He became the UKs highest paid entertainer during the 1930s and the biggest box office attraction of the era. He died of a heart attack aged 56 in 1961, just 3 months after losing his beloved wife Beryl.
