MARTHA RAYE d1994. American comic actress and standards singer who performed in movies and later on television. She was honored in 1969 with an Academy Award (the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award) recipient for her volunteer efforts and services to the troops during the war years. Seven times married, her final years were blighted by poor health. She died of pneumonia aged 78 in 1994.
