Certification:Whilst still studying O-levels at school Noddy Holder was involved in the local music scene in Wolverhampton with groups the Memphis Cut-Outs and later the Mavericks. Steve Brett and The Mavericks released three singles on the Columbia label, the best known being "Sugar Shack" released in December 1965. An unreleased song "Hurting Inside" (featuring Noddy singing back-up) is possibly his earliest recorded vocal track. They shared the Astra Booking Agency with a group known as The N'Betweens" (that included Dave Hill & Don Powell) within their lineup. From the resulting friendship Noddy / Don / Dave and Jim Lea eventually formed Ambrose Slade, later shortened to Slade in 1970. From the wonderful 1964-1966 autograph book of Linda Smith (Tex Watts) containing many music notables of the period ; the majority she collected as a teenager at the famous Nottingham Boat Club Venue West Bridgford Nottingham. Most are dated and some are dedicated to her (Tex). There is a copy of a letter from her included further detailing the history. Collectors notation dates these pages to December 19th 1964. AFTAL Dealer No13 and UACC RD Memorabilia UK COA
