Tony Jackson & The Vibrations
Tony Jackson & The Vibrations
TONY JACKSON & THE VIBRATIONS. British group formed after Tony Jackson (lead singer with top Liverpool group the Searchers) left them in July 1964, after he became disenchanted with their move away from their rock 'n' roll roots to a softer more melodic sound. By August, he'd moved to London and assembled a new band the Vibrations. The Vibrations had an organ-based sound to their music rather than the familiar twelve string guitars associated with the Searchers. They toured Britain on package tours with (amongst others) the Hollies and Marianne Faithfull. Signed by Pye Records, the band released several singles including Bye Bye Baby / You Beat Me to The Punch and Love Potion No9, but enjoyed little commercial success. Following the release of "Stage Door" during the summer of 1965, they became known as The Tony Jackson Group. Dropped by Pye after that record, a switch to CBS failed to improve their fortunes
