Last of The Summer Wine
LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE. British BBC TV sitcom written by Roy Clarke that became the longest running comedy sitcom in the world, running in more than 25 countries for 295 episodes and 31 series between 1973-2010. It was set and filmed in and around Holmfirth Yorkshire, centering around the adventures of a trio of old men. The original trio consisted of ; Bill Owen as the scruffy and child-like Compo / Peter Sallis as the deep-thinking but meek Norman Clegg and Michael Bates as authoritarian and snobbish Blamire. When Bates dropped out through illness in 1976 after two series, the role of the third man in the trio was filled by the quirky war-veteran Foggy (Brian Wilde), the eccentric inventor Seymour (Michael Aldridge) and former police officer Truly (Frank Thornton). The men never seemed to grow up and develop a unique perspective on life to their equally eccentric fellow townspeople through their youthful stunts
