A good original typed letter (dated 26th November 1949), clearly signed at the conclusion in ink by Paul Schofield.


The letter mentions "Tamburlaine" and "Chopin". One of a wonderful collection of over 50 celebrity letters all obtained during the late 1940s to early 1950s by a Mr Douglas Squires. He was involved in editing a School / University Film & Theatre Entertainment magazine during this period and wrote to celebrities looking for a contribution of autographs and signed photographs for the magazine. Many of the letters are gracious and detailed replies with many references to helping his project and mentions of their careers at that point in time. PAUL SCHOFIELD CBE d2008. English actor of stage and screen who was known for his striking presence, distinctive voice and the clarity and effortless intensity of his delivery. Regarded as one of the greatest Shakespearean actors of all time, he preferred the stage over film. This and his decision to put family first meant that he was never well known outside of the United Kingdom. He is nowadays probably best known outside of his homeland for his Academy / Golden Globe and BATFTA award-winning performance as Sir thomas More in the 1966 film "A Man for All Seasons". He died of Leukhemia aged 86 on 19th March 2008.
