TOM PETTY d2017. American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist of the 1970s, best known for his work as the frontman of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and for being a founding member of the 1980s supergroup The Travelling Wilburys. He recorded a number of hit singles with the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist, many of which remain heavily played on classic rock radio. His music notably his hits, became popular amongst the younger generation. Throughout his career, he and his collaborators have sold over 60 million albums. Tom Petty died of an accidental drug overdose in California on October 2nd 2017 (at the age of 66), just one week after the end of the Heartbreakers' 40th Anniversary Tour
