Frankie Lymon

Frankie Lymon

FRANKIE LYMON and THE TEENAGERS. American teenage rock n roll doo-wap group best known for their 1956 classic "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" and subsequent follow ups ; I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent and ABC's of Love. Frankie Lymon (their 13 year old boy soprano lead singer) is today considered to be the first ever teenage popstar. Due to acrimony within the group, he left to pursue a solo career in mid 1957, but both his and the groups fortunes went into immediate decline afterwards. Despite many attempts to ignite his career, Frankie Lymon became a heroin addict and died of an overdose aged just 25 on February 27th 1968. Teenagers group members (Sherman Garnes) died of a heart attack in 1977 and (Joe Negroni) died from a celebral hemorrhage aged just 37 in 1978. The Teenagers influences are easily recognisable in the later sound of many future pop artists including ; Phil Spector's Girl Groups / Motown and The Jackson 5.
