JAMES GLEASON d1959. American actor, playwright and screenwriter born in New York City best known for portraying "tough-talking, world-weary guys with a secret heart-of-gold" during the films of the 1930-50s. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as boxing manager Max "Pop" Corkle in the 1941 film Here Comes Mr Jordan
